In 1990 AIR was called Retired Citizens of Queensland.
Following work by a committee including Maureen Kingston the Association of Independent Retirees (A.I.R.) Limited was formed.
The first meeting was held in 1992 and Maureen Kingston was elected National President.
The first Branch under the new name was Noosa, formed on 1 May 1992.
On 12th September 2002, the name Association of Independent Retirees (A.I.R.) Limited was registered with ASIC as a Company.
On 4th January 2024, the Company name changed to Australian Independent Retirees (A.I.R.) Limited.
